Hawk Fanatic week 5 predictions
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Kinnick Stadium is where top five teams go to and die according to Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, but not all of our three panelists see it that way.
Dallas Jones picks Michigan to defeat Iowa on Saturday, while Pat Harty and Rob Howe both went the homer route by picking Iowa to upset yet another top-five opponent at home.
Michigan has also lost four games in a row at Kinnick Stadium, including a 14-13 loss in 2016 when freshman Keith Duncan made a last-second field goal to lift Iowa to victory.
So, maybe they’re not necessarily homers, but believe that history will repeat itself.
Howe is clinging to a one-pick lead after four weeks.
Pat Harty’s picks
Iowa 16, Michigan 15: Iowa will score its points on three safeties, a pick six by Cooper DeJean, and a 55-yard field goal by freshman Drew Stevens as time expires,
Minnesota 28, Purdue 21: Charlie Jones enters the transfer portal at halftime and then has five catches for Minnesota in the second half.
Wisconsin 23, Illinois 21: With the Badgers trailing 10-3 at halftime, Paul Chryst spends all of halftime on the phone with Barry Alvarez being told exactly what to do in the second half.
Kansas 31, Iowa State 30: Iowa State fans blame the loss on the officiating from the Baylor game the week before.
Ole Miss 30, Kentucky 27: With his team trailing 17-10 at halftime, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin adds four key players from the transfer portal before the start of the third quarter.
Last week: 4-1
Overall: 13-7
Dallas Jones’s picks
Michigan 24, Iowa 10: I think 11 am is too early for Iowa’s magic against top-5 teams to kick in.
Minnesota 31, Purdue 20: Purdue is in the dog house and Minnesota is the best in the West.
Wisconsin 24, Illinois 17: This game in January will be really fun.
Kansas 28, Iowa State 20: I have officially joined the Jayhawk wagon.
Kentucky 28, Ole Miss 24: This being a top-15 matchup just doesn’t even feel right.
Last week: 3-2

Rob Howe’s picks
Iowa 10, Michigan 9: I’m recommending Spencer Petras hang onto his helmet during field storm.
Minnesota 27, Purdue 24: What if Charlie Jones…oh, never mind.
Wisconsin 20, Illinois 16: I don’t know why, but I’m thinking about the Bro/Manzere Seinfeld episode picking this game.
Kansas 23, Iowa State 17: Matt Campbell awarded two points for takedown of an official not enough to overcome upstart Jayhawks.
Ole Miss 30, Kentucky 28: The Deliverance Bowl.
Last week: 3-2
Overall: 14-6
