Iowa Football 1st to Offer Jordan Faison
Hawkeyes Jump In With '23 Florida Athlete
It’s been more than a year since Jordan Faison verbally committed to playing lacrosse at Notre Dame. Friday, he found out that he was receiving an opportunity to play a different sport at a different school.
Iowa Football extended a scholarship offer to the Class of 2023 Fort Lauderdale (FL) Gulliver Pinecrest Preparatory School Athlete. Hawkeye running back coach Ladell Betts served as his school’s head coach before returning to coach at his college alma mater before the ’21 campaign.
“(Iowa is) my first D-I football offer,” Faison told HF. “I’ve played football my whole life, so getting that offer was almost like a dream.”
Hawkeye receiver coach Kelton Copeland, a Florida native, also is recruiting Faison for the program. A strong bond with Betts stretches back some years.
“I had a really good relationship with coach Betts when he was my high school coach,” Faison said.
He plans on visiting Iowa on Oct. 29 for its homecoming game against Northwestern at Kinnick Stadium.
“I want to see the area, see how the team functions and see what the school has to offer,” said Faison, who wants to study Business in college.
Faison has rushed 84 times for 1,055 yards and 18 touchdowns through seven games this season, according to MaxPreps.com. He’s completed 12 of 28 passes for 167 yards and three scores against one interception. On defense and special teams, he has 18 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble and two blocked punts.
Michigan State, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Central Florida and UCLA also are showing interest in Faison for football, he reports.
“The most important thing for me is being somewhere (in college) where I can feel comfortable at without playing sports,” he said.
