Hawk Fanatic week 10 predictions
IOWA CITY, Iowa – With Ohio State hosting lowly Indiana, Michigan hosting struggling Nebraska and Minnesota hosting last-place Northwestern, it was slim pickings in the Big Ten this week for interesting matchups, so we ventured outside of the conference for three of our five games to predict
Rutgers at Michigan State was considered, along with Maryland at Penn State.
But neither game made the cut because it’s hard to envision Rutgers or Maryland winning on the road against better opponents.
As for our three panelists, Rob Howe now holds a two-pick lead over both Pat Harty and Dallas Jones with just three games left in the regular season.
This marks the first time in several weeks in which Harty hasn’t been alone in last place.
Pat Harty’s picks
Iowa 12, Wisconsin 9: Iowa will score its points on four Drew Stevens field goals, including three from at least 50 yards. He says afterwards with tears running down his cheeks that he hopes this will be enough to be the Hawk Fanatic Athlete of the Week again.
Illinois 27, Purdue 24: Charlie Jones and Bret Bielema both grew up in Illinois and joined the Iowa football team as walk-ons. That has nothing to do with this game, or with my prediction, but it’s the best I can do.
Alabama 31, Ole Miss 24: The world just isn’t prepared for the anger and nastiness that would come from Nick Saban losing three games in a regular season.
Oklahoma State 24, Iowa State 21: I’ll go out on a limb and predict that Iowa State fans will blame this loss on the officials.
TCU 28, Texas 27: TCU quarterback Max Duggan has completed 66 percent of his passes for 2,407 yards passing, and has 282 yards rushing and 28 touchdowns. He’s also from Council Bluffs, but he wasn’t the inspiration for the 1983 movie “Max Dugan Returns” starring Jason Robarbs as Max Duggan the quarterback spells his last name with two Gs and wasn’t even born yet.
Last week: 4-1
Overall: 27-18
