Fran McCaffery speaks highly of Rutgers basketball program
By Everett Merrill
PISCATAWAY, New Jersey – Fran McCaffery was extremely complimentary of Rutgers in his post-game remarks.
“I just want to say what a class operation Rutgers is. Pat Hobbs (Rutgers athletic director) came by practice on Saturday to offer his well wishes for my Patrick and the Rutgers basketball team filled out a card to wish him luck. I don’t know how many programs would do that, but it speaks to who Pat Hobbs is and Steve Pikiell (Rutgers coach) is.”
Patrick McCaffery, a 6-foot-9 junior forward, who is also Fran McCaffery’s son, has taken a leave of absence from the team to deal with anxiety issues.
With 10.5 seconds to play, Patrick’s older brother, Connor McCaffery, had to be helped off the court with what coach McCaffery described as “just getting knocked down.”
Connor McCaffery posted on Twitter after Sunday’s game that he was alright and he thanked everyone for checking in.
Hot from 3: The Hawkeyes made 12 3-pointers today, their highest total in a game this season since sinking 12 versus No. 20 Iowa State on Dec. 8. Iowa improved to 6-0 this season when making nine or more 3-pointers.
Murray stays hot: Junior forward Kris Murray scored 17 points in Sunday’s victory and has scored at least 17 points in each of his last four games since returning from injury.
