EVANSTON, Illinois – The University of Iowa baseball team defeated Northwestern, 10-0, on Saturday afternoon at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park.

Brody Brecht got the start for the Hawkeyes throwing six innings and allowing just one hit and one walk. He struck out nine and retired 17 straight after allowing a leadoff hit to the Wildcats.

Jack Whitlock and Will Christophersen combined to throw the remaining three innings striking out three and allowing one hit.

“Really hard-fought game through six innings,” said head coach Rick Heller. “Pitchers’ dual, Brody Brecht was outstanding gave us a great start. Had outstanding command of his fastball and was able to get his slider over for the most part. Dominated the zone which was great to see.”

Brayden Frazier was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, and Brennen Dorighi was 2-for-3 at the plate with a two-run home run. Michael Seegers was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and Raider Tello had a pair of RBIs.

“Finally broke out and were able to execute the short game for some runs in the top of the sixth”, said Heller. “Then the guys broke it open. Brayden Frazier and Brennen Dorighi had really big days.

The Hawkeyes outhit the Wildcats 11-2 and were 6-for-11 with runners on base.

“Two hit shutout to end the season,” said Heller. “Worst we can get is third, awesome year, awesome regular season. Now headed to Omaha and hope to have an awesome postseason.”
