Hawk Fanatic podcast: Getting to know Iowa graduate transfer Ben Krikke
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Ben Krikke has a lot on on his plate these days as he adjusts to his new role as an Iowa basketball player.
The graduate transfer from Valparaiso took time from his busy schedule to be a guest on Friday’s Hawk Fanatic radio show and podcast.
Krikke, a 6-foot-9 forward and the leading scorer in the Missouri Valley Conferenece this past season at nearly 20 points per game, addressed multiple topics, including how he thinks his game will fit into Iowa’s style of play under head coach Fran McCaffery.
Krikke credits Iowa assistant coach Matt Gatens for paving the way for him to be a Hawkeye after having played four seasons for Valparaiso.
Krikke will be expected to help fill the void created by the loss of junior forward Kris Murray to the NBA and senior forward Filip Rebraca to graduation.
Kris Murray and Rebraca were Iowa’s top two scorers last season.
Rebraca also came to Iowa as a graduate transfer and played two seasons for the Hawkeyes.
Krikke, who is from Edmonton, Alberta in Canada, said Rebraca’s success as a Hawkeye made a strong impression on him.
Krikke’s interview starts about an hour-and-45 minutes into the podcast and lasts for about 20 minutes.
