Pleasant Valley lineman Joey VanWetzinga first player to commit to Iowa’s 2025 class
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Lineman Joey VanWetzinga still has two years of high school remaining, but his plans for college already are set.
VanWetzinga, who attends Pleasant Valley High School, annouced his commitmet to Iowa via Twitter on Saturday.
The 6-foot-2, 255-pound VanWetzinga is the first player to commit to Iowa’s 2025 recruiting class and he is the younger brother of incoming Iowa freshman fullback Rusty VanWetzinga.
Joey VanWetzinga plays on both the offensive line and defensive line for his high school team, but Iowa is recruiting him as an offensive lineman, according to his post on Twitter.
He is also a four-sport athlete and has qualfied for state in wrestling and in the shot put.
VanWetzinga’s verbal commitment came just a few weeks after he was offered a scholarship by Iowa.
