Ohio “quick-twitch” defensive back/receiver commits to Iowa
Jaylen Watson is nephew of former Iowa RB Fred Russell
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Since June 22, the Iowa football team has had eight players commit to its 2024 recruiting class.
The latest addition is Ohio defensive back/receiver Jaylen Watson, who announced his commitment to Iowa via Instagram on Sunday.
Watson picked Iowa over scholarship offers from a list that includes Cincinnati, Louisville, West Virginia, Maryland, Minnesota, Toledo and Miami (Ohio) among others.
“Good athlete, quick twitch type who can play wide receiver or cornerback, veteran recruiting analyst Tom Lemming said of the 5-foot-10, 160-pound Watson, who attends Central Catholic High School in Toledo, Ohio. “He has great reaction and cover skills.”
Watson is originally from Michigan and he is the nephew of former Iowa running back Fred Russell, who was from Inkster, Michigan.
These rush of commitments comes on the heels of a big recruiting weekend in which multiple prospects visited the Iowa campus in June.
