ALBANY, New York – Freshman Dionne van Aalsum’s third multi-goal game of the season led the seventh-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team to a 3-0 victory over Fairfield on Friday afternoon in a neutral site matchup at Alumni Turf.

Junior Annika Herbine gave the Hawkeyes the early lead 16 seconds into the game by scoring off a rebound right in front of the goal. van Aalsum extended the lead in the second quarter off an assist from fifth-year Sofie Stribos. She then ended the game with a goal in the 59th minute, unassisted.

Iowa’s defense only allowed 2 shots, none on goal, in its second shutout this season.

OF NOTE…
– Herbine scored her first goal of the season.
– Iowa recorded its second shutout in three games.
– van Aalsum has recorded two goals in each of her first three career games.
