2024 Illinois point guard Aaliyah Guyton commits to Iowa
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa women’s basketball team has received a verbal commitment from 2024 point guard Aaliyah Guyton.
The Peoria, Illinois native, who is the daughter of former Indiana guard A.J. Guyton, announced her commitment to Iowa on Monday.
Guyton picked Iowa, the 2023 NCAA national runner-up, from a field of five finalists that included Illinois, Nebraska, Michigan State and Pittsburgh.
Guyton was the 2023 Peoria Journal-Star girls basketball player of the year. The 5-foot-7 point guard averaged 21.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists during her junior season.
Peoria High was the Class 3A third-place finisher.
Guyton is a four-star prospect and she is ranked No. 57 on the ESPN 2024 HoopGurlz recruiting rankings.
Guyton is the fifth player to commit to Iowa’s 2024 recruiting class and the fourth that ranks inside ESPN’s top 100. The others are Oregon center Ava Heiden at No. 36, and Wisconsin natives Teagan Mallegni at No. 64 and Taylor Stremlow at No. 88.
Solon, Iowa guard Callie Levin is also committed to Iowa’s 2024 class.
Guyton has been a recruiting priority for Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder and her staff. The entire Iowa coaching staff visited Guyton earlier this month.
Her official offer from Iowa came in July 2022.
Iowa will have some massive holes to fill in the backcourt after seniors Kate Martin and Gabbie Marshall use up their eligibility this coming season.
All-America point guard Caitlin Clark, the 2023 National Player of the Year, also could leave after this coming season if she chooses not to use her free Covid year.
