2025 California five-star guard Addie Deal commits to Iowa
IOWA CITY, Iowa – While all eyes are focused on Caitlin Clark and the current Iowa women’s basketball team, the future also looks bright for the Hawkeyes in recruiting.
Iowa has landed a verbal commitment from California native Addie Deal, a five-star recruit and the No. 12 player in the 2025 senior class according to ESPN.
Deal, a 6-foot guard from Ladera Ranch, California, announced her commitment to Iowa Tuesday afternoon, picking the Hawkeye over a long list of top schools.
“I chose Iowa because of the amazing coaching staff, the culture, the style of play, conference and competitive level Iowa has been playing at,” Deal said in a text message. “I’m so excited to be Hawkeye.”
As a sophomore, Deal averaged a team-high 15 points per game for Mater Dei High School, along with 5.3 rebounds and 2.7 steals. Her junior season was cut short after she suffered a grade-three sprained ankle in December.
The Iowa women’s basketball team has become a national storyline due largely to Clark’s enormous popularity.
In addition to being the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer for both women and men, Clark also led Iowa to its third straight Big Ten Tournament title this past weekend, and she led Iowa to the NCAA championship game last season for the first time in program history.
And now her impact is paying dividends in recruiting.
Deal’s commitment is huge as Iowa starts to prepare for life without Clark, who will enter the 2024 WNBA draft.
Deal recently visited Iowa City and attended the win over Ohio State on Senior Day at a packed Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
She apparently liked what she saw and heard.
