Kadyn Proctor plans to transfer back to Alabama after just two months at Iowa
By Pat Harty
IOWA CITY, Iowa – At 5:03 p.m. on Tuesday, I received a text message from my nephew in which he said he was hearing that Kadyn Proctor was headed back to Alabama.
“So, Proctor back to Bama?” my nephew texted.
I texted back that I hadn’t heard anything, and then did a search on X that showed nothing up to date.
But then about 15 minutes later the news broke that Proctor plans to re-enter the transfer portal when the spring window opens.
And then a few minutes later, it was reported that Proctor plans to re-enroll at Alabama this spring.
Wow! I thought.
My nephew was right.
Barely two months after transferring from Alabama to Iowa, Proctor is headed back to Alabama.
Proctor told on3Sports that he plans to re-enroll at Alabama this spring.
This decision seems to have come out of nowhere, but it obviously didn’t.
My nephew says he was told today that Proctor is transferring back to Alabama where Proctor started every game last season at left tackle as a true freshman.
This is shocking news, even in this age of the transfer portal and NIL.
Or is it?
Maybe this is just the new normal, especially when dealing with a former five-star recruit that has multiple options.
Whatever the case, spring practice starts on Wednesday and Iowa’s biggest recruiting catch is now headed back to Alabama after having never even practiced with the Hawkeyes.
Proctor transferred to Iowa in January, and shortly after Nick Saban announced his retirement.
It was believed that Saban’s departure and being homesick caused Proctor to transfer to Iowa.
Proctor, a 2023 graduate of Southeast Polk High School, had previously been committed to Iowa before ultimately signing with Alabama in high school.
So, it made some sense that he would choose to come home to be a Hawkeye.
But now Proctor is headed back to Alabama for reasons that aren’t clear right now.
I guess the lesson here is that anything is possible these days, and to pay attention when your nephew sends a text.
