Patrick McCaffery has entered the transfer portal
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Patrick McCaffery is finished playing basketball for his father at the University of Iowa, but he apparently isn’t finished playing college basketball.
The 6-foot-9 fifth-year senior forward has entered the transfer portal and could use his free Covid year to play for another college team next season.
Patrick McCaffery has scored over 1,000 points as a Hawkeye and started 61 games for his father, Fran McCaffery. Patrick also was part of Iowa’s 2022 Big Ten Tournament championship team.

He has dealt with numerous obstacles away from basketball, including an ongoing battle with anxiety.
Patrick McCaffery also had a malignant tumor removed from his thyroid in 2014.
He now joins Iowa senior guard Tony Perkins in the transfer portal.
Perkins also has a free Covid year after having played for four seasons at Iowa.
Perkins started 81 game as a Hawkeye and is one of two Big Ten players this century to record at least 14 assists in multiple games.
This should be an active offseason for Fran MCCaffery as he tries to rebuild his roster.
In addition to losing Patrick McCaffery and Perkins to the portal, Iowa also loses graduate transfer forward Ben Krikke, who has used up his eligibility, and sophomore guard Dasonte Bowen, who also has entered the portal.
There are reportedly close to 1,000 players now in the portal.
