Jalen Adams tosses no-hitter to lead Iowa softball to 4-0 victory over Michigan State

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball team took game one of the three-game series against Michigan State, 4-0, on Friday evening at Bob Pearl Field.
Sophomore Jalen Adams (8-6) threw the program’s 19th no-hitter as Iowa picked up the win over the Spartans. This was Iowa’s first no-hitter since May 2021. Adams allowed two free passes and struck out two Michigan State hitters in seven innings of work.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams kept quiet through the first two innings of work. Freshman Jena Young led off the bottom of the third with her fourth double of the season but was left stranded at third as the inning ended.
Adams struck out two Spartans in the top of the fifth to add another shutout inning for the Hawkeyes.
Iowa was able to get the offense going in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman Soo-Jin Berry singled through the left side to score junior Rylie Moss to give the Hawkeyes the, 1-0, lead. Senior Sammy Diaz followed that up with an single to centerfield scoring two more to extend the Hawkeye lead to three.
After another quiet top of the sixth, Iowa was able to add one more insurance run on an RBI single from Moss. In the top of the seventh, the Hawkeye defense made a couple of outstanding plays to keep the no-hitter intact. Senior Grace Banes secured the final out with a running grab in centerfield.
The Hawkeyes finished the game with four runs on nine hits and had no errors.

- Young extended her hit streak to 10 games and has reached base in the last 11 games.
- Adams threw the first no-hitter since Allison Doocy in 2021 against Rutgers.
- This was Adams’ 12thcomplete game of the season.
