Former Iowa guard Dasonte Bowen commits to St. Bonaventure
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Former Iowa guard Dasonte Bowen has picked a new school to continue his college basketball career.
Bowen told ESPN that he has committed to St. Bonaventure, whose campus in New York state is much closer to his hometown of Boston.
The 6-foot-3 guard started the first eight games for Iowa this past season before losing his starting position. He eventually fell out of the rotation before his sophomore season was cut short by an injury.
Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery spoke highly of Bowen after he had entered the transfer portal.
“Dasonte Bowen is one of the finest young men I’ve had the privilege to coach,” Fran McCaffery said. “I wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”
Bowen appeared in 25 games this past season and averaged 4.5 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.
He will have two seasons of eligibility.
Bowen is among three former Iowa players that have transferred since the end of the season.
Senior guard Tony Perkins announced recently that he will play his final season for Missouri, while fifth-year senior forward Patrick McCaffery will transfer to Butler for his final season.
Perkins made second-team All-Big Ten this past season, while Patrick McCaffery scored over 1,000 points while playing for his father at Iowa.
