Manhattan transfer forward Seydou Traore commits to Iowa
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Fran McCaffery said recently that he still wanted to add a frontline player to Iowa’s 2024 recruiting class.
Mission accomplished.
Iowa has received a verbal commitment from 6-foot-7 Manhattan forward Seydou Traore.
He visited Iowa City on Monday and Tuesday and then committed on Wednesday.
Traore averaged 11.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game this past season.
He is the second player to commit to Iowa from the transfer portal during this recruiting cycle, joining 6-4 Morehead State guard Drew Thelwell, who committed in April.
Traore, who has three seasons of eligibility, reportedly had interest from Boston College, Louisville, New Mexico and Washington before picking Iowa.
Fran McCaffery now waits to see what 6-7 forward Payton Sandfort ultimately decides about his future.
Sandfort has one season of eligibility, but he is currently exploring the NBA draft process and is participating in the NBA Draft Combine this week in Chicago.
Sandfort’s stock appears to have risen since he started working out for NBA teams as he now projects as a second-round pick, and as a late first-round pick on a few mock drafts.
