Son of former Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald commits to Iowa as walk-on QB in 2025 class
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The son of former Northwestern football coach Pat Fitzgerald has committed to Iowa as a preferred walk-on quarterback in the 2025 class.
Ryan Fitzgerald, who attends Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois, announced his commitment to Iowa Friday afternoon on X, which was formerly known as Twitter.
The 6-3-205-pounder picked Iowa despite having scholarships offers from multiple teams in the Mid-American Conference, and from multiple FCS teams.
“He’s a leader and he’s got a good arm,” veteran recruiting analyst Tom Lemming said Ryan Fitzgerald, who helped lead Loyola Academy to the Class 8A state title this past season. “He’s a good athlete and he plays for one of the best teams in the entire Midwest.”
Ryan Fitzgerald is ranked as a three-star recruit by On3sports.
“I would say he’s more pro-style, but he’s able to move a little bit,” Lemming said. “He’s not a runner, but he’s able to work his way around the pocket.”
Ryan Fitzgerald’s commitment comes one week after his Loyola teammate, Drew MacPherson, committed to Iowa’s 2025 class as an athlete. MacPherson plays running back and receiver in high school, but is expected to play safety for Iowa
