Bad Knee Bets: Week Eight of College Football
By Dallas Jones
IOWA CITY, IOWA – For many people sports betting is more about the journey rather than the wins and losses, but the bad knee just simply needs to be better. Thankfully, this weekend brings us one of the most stacked slates of football games we will see until the postseason.
Top ten matchups, Big Ten wars and more are here. Here are my favorite plays of this weekend.
Auburn at #19 Missouri (-4):
Don’t overthink this one, good team at home versus a bad team on the road. Mizzou is currently 5-1 on the season with their long loss coming at Texas A&M a couple weeks back. Auburn on the other hand is 2-4, coming off of three straight conference losses by an average of 11.3 ppg.
In the battle of the Tigers, Mizzou comes out on top and by two scores in my opinion.
Nebraska (+6.5) at #16 Indiana:
If I told you in August that the biggest week eight game in the Big Ten would be Nebraska at Indiana, would you have believed me? No matter your answer, the UNDEFEATED Indiana Hoosiers will face their first their biggest test of the year when the Huskers come to town.
Nebraska sits at 5-1 with their lone loss coming in overtime to the 23rd ranked Fighting Illini. The Nebraska defensive line has the talent to control this game and either way, this game should go down to the wire. I wouldn’t mind taking Nebraska wining straight up either.
#7 Alabama (-3) at #11 Tennessee:
On a normal week, this would clearly be the matchup to look forward to. The seventh ranked Alabama Crimson Tide travel to Knoxville to face the eleventh ranked Tennessee Volunteers. Two of the best at the QB position as well in Alabama’s Jalen Milroe and Tennessee’s Nico Iamaleava, but it’s the Tennessee offense (ranked ninth in ppg in FBS) that is my biggest concern.
While they are averaging 42.2 point per game for the season, in their last three games they have scored 23 vs Florida(OT game), 19 at Arkansas (lost) and 25 at Oklahoma. Now Alabama has had their own struggles of late, especially on the defensive end, but I always trust the better QB. Roll Tide.
Iowa at Michigan State (O39.5):
The Iowa Hawkeyes are an over team until further notice. Thanks to the development of the offensive line, Kaleb Johnson and the Iowa Hawkeye offense are moving the ball the best we have seen in the last three seasons. The Spartan defense is ranked 95th in the country in run defense, while the Hawkeye rushing attack ranks 21st.
A few holes have shown in the Hawkeye defense at time, so don’t completely count out Michigan State. 40 points is just too small of a number to not like. My game prediction is 27-17 Hawkeyes, this game may be a little overshadowed by another matchup of conference opponents.
#5 Georgia (+5) at #1 Texas:
Clash of the Titans is here. The Texas Longhorns have looked like the clear best team in the country so far this year as they dominated both Michigan and Oklahoma in their two biggest games so far. No disrespect to either of those teams, but the Georgia Bulldogs are on a different tier than those other two.
Georgia’s lone loss this year was at Alabama, a game in which they trailed by over three scores and somehow retook the lead in the fourth quarter. The College football Gods know the entire country will be watching this one. Bad knee says it’s decided by a field goal from either team.
Good luck to everyone this week, I just hope they all have fun.
