Freshman point guard Aaliyah Guyton plays key role in win over Brigham Young

The Iowa women’s basketball team improved to 8-0 under first-year head coach Jan Jensen by defeating Brigham Young 68-48 on Friday in Cancun, Mexico.
Iowa is 8-0 for the fourth time in program history and for the first time since the 1993-94 season under C. Vivian Stringer.
Iowa played without Villanova transfer Lucy Olsen for the second straight game due to a lower leg laceration, but freshman point guard Aaliyah Guyton helped to fill the void with her first extensive playing time as a Hawkeye following knee surgery.
Guyton scored a career-high 11 points and made all three of her shots from 3-point range.
Junior forward Hannah Stuelke led Iowa with high 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field. The Cedar Rapids native also and eight rebounds.
Senior center Addi O’Grady scored 12 points and was six-of-eight from the field. She has scored at least 10 points in even games this season.
Senior guard Syd Affolter finished the game with seven points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and a career-high five steals. She has recorded eight or more rebounds in three straight games.
The Hawkeyes have won 117 games since 2020-21 which ties for fourth-best nationally.
Iowa has beaten seven out of its eight opponents by double digits this season.

The Hawkeyes will hit the road to play Tennessee in the Women’s Champions Classic on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. (CT) inside the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York. The game is set to broadcast nationally on FOX and the Hawkeye Radio Network.
