Iowa sophomore forward Pryce Sandfort enters transfer portal

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Sophomore forward Pryce Sandfort is the third Iowa player to enter the transfer portal since Fran McCaffery was fired as the Iowa head coach last Friday.
Pryce Sandfort announced his decision to enter the portal Monday on social media, and just a few hours after sophomore point guard Brock Harding announced that he also had entered the portal.
Sophomore forward Owen Freeman was the first Iowa player to enter the portal this past Saturday.

Pryce Sandfort hasn’t ruled out the possibility of staying at Iowa.
“I’ll also be monitoring the Iowa program and will be keeping all my options open,” Pryce Sandfort said.
If Iowa were to hire West Virginia head coach Darian DeVries, who is considered a leading candidate, that could entice the 6-foot-7 Pryce Sandfort to stay at Iowa since Pryce and DeVries’s son, Tucker DeVries, were teammates at Waukee High School.
It is widely believed that Tucker DeVries, a 6-7 forward, would play his final season at Iowa if his father were to be hired as head coach.
Pryce Sandfort averaged 8.8 points and 2.9 rebounds per game this past season. He also ranked third on the team with 56 3-point baskets, shooting 40 percent from 3-point range.
Pryce Sandfort is the younger brother of Iowa senior forward Payton Sandfort, who played his final game for the Hawkeyes against Illinois in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament last Thursday in Indianapolis.
Payton Sandfort scored 30 points in the 106-94 loss to Illinois, which would prove to be Fran McCaffery’s final game as the Iowa head coach.
Payton Sandfort and Tucker DeVries helped to lead Waukee to a state title as seniors in 2021.
