California five-star recruit McKenna Woliczko reflects on her recruitment
IOWA CITY, Iowa – For the second year in a row, the Iowa women’s basketball team has landed one of the top players from the state of California
McKenna Woliczko, a 6-foot-2 wing player from San Bruno, California, announced her commitment to Iowa Wednesday morning.
Ranked as a five-star recruit and as the No. 6 prospect in the 2026 class, Woliczko picked Iowa over South Carolina, Ohio State and USC.
She will now follow in the footsteps of 2025 five-star guard and Irvine, California native Addie Deal, who is currently a freshman at Iowa.
Here is a statement from Woliczko describing her recruiting process:
“My recruiting process has been both exciting and stressful. From my first ever AAU game in the summer before 8th grade, I had division 1 college coaches sitting and watching me play. I remember making calls to college basketball coaches between games at travel soccer tournaments. The first open gym I ever played at Archbishop Mity High School I just assumed the college coaches were there to see my older teammates on a stacked team. I didn’t even know I would make as a freshman. Then to jump into the starting line up in my first ever high school game, matched up against a senior McDonald’s All-American.
“The entire time being coached by the greatest high school basketball coach in the country who also helped guide me to two gold medals and two All-Star 5 selections with Team USA while also traveling the world with Jason Kidd’s AAU program. Spending time with my teammates, meeting hall of fame coaches, world class players and fans from all parts of the country the thing I’m most grateful for are the relationships. Through my recruitment, I value the lifelong friendships I have created with both players and coaches alike. I will cherish each and every one of you as family.”
