Former Georgia guard Jocelyn Faison commits to Iowa women’s basketball

IOWA CITY, Iowa – After losing five players to the transfer portal, Iowa women’s basketball coach Jen Jensen continues to restock her roster, even with the transfer portal now closed.
The Hawkeyes gained a commitment from 6-foot-1 former Georgia guard Jocelyn Faison, who announced her commitment Tuesday on social media.
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Faison appeared in 25 games last season for a Georgia team that won 22 games and earned a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament. She averaged 7.8 minutes, 1.3 points and 1.4 rebounds per contest while shooting 35.7 percent from the field.
Faison is the second player from Georgia to commit to Iowa during this portal cycle, joining guard Dani Carnegie, who committed to Iowa on April 11.
Oklahoma State transfer Amari Whiting, a 5-10 guard and senior-to-be, also announced her commitment to Iowa April 15.
Faison is entering her sophomore season and will have three seasons of eligibility.
She was ranked inside ESPN’s top-100 players as a high school senior, and she reportedly had scholarship offers from a list of schools that included Clemson, Ole Miss, Baylor, Mississippi State, Arizona State, Miami FL, Florida State and Georgia Tech among others.
Faison’s commitment comes slightly more than a week after the transfer portal closed on April 20. Players can’t enter the portal when it’s closed, but teams can still add players from the portal after the deadline.
Iowa’s guard court was hit particularly hard by the portal losses as all five players are either guards exclusively in the cases of Addie Deal, Callie Levin and Kinesse Johnson, or a shooting guard/small forward in the cases of Emely Rodriguez and Teagan Mallegni.
Deal and Mallegni have both since committed to Wisconsin, while Levin has committed to Northern Iowa.
Even with all the backcourt losses, Iowa still will return its starting backcourt in point guard Chit-Chat Wright and combo guard Taylor Streemlow, both of whom will be juniors next season.
Wright, who is also from Atlanta, played her freshman season at Georgia Tech with Carnegie.
