Iowa Puts Full-Court Press on Cayden Daughtry
Ben McCollum, Hawkeye Assistants Visit '27 FL PG
Sometimes it’s hard to tell how someone feels about you. On other occasions, it’s crystal clear.
The latter is the case when it comes to Class of 2027 point guard Cayden Daughtry and Iowa Basketball. The program is making it known that he’s a priority recruit.
First-year Hawkeye coach Ben McCollum brought all of his assistants with him when visiting Daughtry at Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian Academy on Oct. 19. It was appreciated.
“It was cool to have all of the coaches visit. It showed they have a lot of interest in me and are making an effort,” Daughtry said.
The 247 Composite Rankings list the 6-foot-1 junior as a five-star recruit and the No. 2 player at his position nationally in the 2027 Class. It has him as the No. 15 overall player in the cycle. Rivals puts him at 17.
Daughtry likes what he knows about the Hawkeye basketball program. He sees a potential fit.
“Iowa is built around their point guard, so their vision would most likely be to use me to run their offense to the best of my ability,” he said.
Other connections tie Daughtry to the University of Iowa. His relatives are alumni from another program in the athletic department.
“I know Iowa has a great fan base. I had family that played football there, Brad Banks and C.J. Jones,” he said.
Daughtry also reports scholarship offers from Arizona State, BYU, Cincinnati, Dayton, Florida Atlantic, Florida State, Miami (FL), Michigan, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Texas A&M, South Florida, Villanova, West Virginia and Sacramento State. Other programs are involved. He’s still in the early stages of his recruitment, however.
“I haven’t narrowed down college majors yet. It’s also still very early to choose a college, so I’m not committing any time soon,” he said.
The Hawkeyes have put themselves in good position with the talented lead guard. He’s looking forward to learning more about them.
“I plan on visiting Iowa after my high school junior basketball season is over, but nothing is planned right now,” he said.
According to Max Preps, Daughtry averaged 16.7 points, 3.6 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.1 steals in 22 games as a sophomore last season. He raised is scoring average four points from his freshman campaign.
Daughtry runs with the Florida Rebels on the Nike EYBL AAU circuit.
