IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team has received a verbal commitment from 2027 quarterback Brayden Santibanez.
A 6-foot-2, 210-pound native of Collierville, Tennessee, Santibanez picked Iowa over reported scholarship offers from Maryland, Memphis, Kansas State and North Carolina.
He is ranked as a 3-star recruit by the industry ranking.
In 13 games as a junior, Santibanez completed 91-of-138 passes for 1,140 yards with 13 touchdowns and five interceptions while splitting time at the position. He also rushed for 321 yards and five touchdowns on 55 carries.
Santibanez is the ninth player to commit to Iowa’s 2027 recruiting class, and the fourth from out of state, joining defensive lineman Tommy Riordan and defensive back Jake Thies, both of whom are from the Chicago suburbs, and offensive lineman Reilly Newman, who is from West Chester, Ohio.
Iowa also has commitments in the 2027 class from five players from instate: linebackers Gavin Stecker (Bettendorf) and Braylon Bingham (Pleasantville); offensive linemen Nate Brenneman (Rock Valley); defensive lineman Jerrence Knoblock (West Lyon); and tight end Jaxx DeJean (Odebolt), who is the younger brother of former Hawkeye defensive back Cooper DeJean, who now plays for the Philadelphia Eagles.
And while Tennessee isn’t a state in which Iowa has recruited heavily under Kirk Ferentz, former Hawkeye quarterback C.J. Beathard is from Franklin, Tennessee and he led Iowa to a school-record 12 wins as a junior in 2015.
Beathard has spent the past nine seasons playing as an NFL backup quarterback.
