Cannon Zubeck Reflects on Iowa Offer
'28 Kansas OL High on Hawkeyes
The last time we heard from Cannon Zubeck, he was coming off of a game-day visit to Kinnick Stadium this past season.
“I loved the fans and tradition, everybody tailgating and just bleeding yellow and black. As well as the tradition with the wave and chants, it was all electric and really cool experiences,” he told us at the time.
The Hawkeyes have continued tracking the Class of 2028 offensive lineman from Shawnee Mission (KS) East High. They decided they’d like him to be a part of their program, offering a scholarship on Wednesday.
“The Iowa offer, I’m super appreciative and grateful for. Iowa is one of the best spots for O-Linemen to go, and it shows year in and year out,” he said.
When Zubeck visited Iowa in November, he held offers from home state Kansas and Kansas State along with Northwestern. His recruitment has picked up significantly since then. He’s reported additional opportunities from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Oregon, Oklahoma, Stanford and Miami (OH).
While the Iowa offer followed quite a few other from Power 4 programs, it’s timing was not an issue.
“The Hawkeyes are positioned well, and I’m looking forward to continuing this relationship together,” he said.
Another visit to Iowa City has not been scheduled, but it’s likely to go down.
“I really want to continue building a relationship with them and continue visiting and checking out the campus and getting to know the area,” Zubeck said.
The 6-foot-7, 225-pounder said the Hawkeyes like his size and multi-sport background. He’s a first baseman and right-handed pitcher in baseball, and patrols the paint on the hoops team.
