By Hawk Fanatic
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Sophomore Luke Knepp made his first quest appearance on the Hawk Fanatic radio show and podcast on Wednesday and he talked about his rise in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Knepp, who is from Bettendorf and a graduate of Pleasant Valley High School, never had competed in the steeplechase before entering college, but he now holds the school record in the event and will compete in the NCAA Championships next Wednesday in Eugene, Oregon.
Knepp ran one of Iowa’s best distance races in recent history, updating his own school record at the NCAA First Rounds and becoming Iowa’s first steeplechase qualifier since 2021. Knepp’s 8:30.52 was fifth at the regional meet and earned him the auto qualification after placing third in heat two. It will be Knepp’s first appearance at the national meet. He owns the 10th-fastest seed time among qualifiers.
