IOWA CITY, Iowa – Despite recent scholarship offers from multiple power five schools, including Michigan, Texas running back Eno Benjamin said Friday that he still favors Iowa.
"Yes sir, easily," Benjamin said when asked if Iowa still was his top school.
The 5-foot-9, 189-pound Benjamin is ranked as a four-star recruit by Rivals.com and as the 14th best running back in the 2017 senior class. He accumulated 3,035 all-purpose yards, including 2,652 rushing yards, and scored 45 touchdowns as a junior.
Benjamin reportedly has at least 21 scholarship offers from schools that include Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Iowa State, Miami (Fla.), Houston and Boise State among others. Missouri was his latest offer on Friday.
Michigan offered Benjamin a scholarship on Wednesday. He tweeted that he was beyond blessed to have received an offer from the University of Michigan. He also tweeted on Friday that he was blessed to have received the Missouri offer.
Iowa was one of the first schools to offer Benjamin a scholarship. He then tweeted on Dec. 14 that Iowa was his No. 1 school.
Two months later, nothing has changed.
Iowa is coming off a 2015 season in which it set a school single-season record with 12 victories, won the Big Ten West Division and played in the Rose Bowl for the first time in 25 years.
The Hawkeyes also rely heavily on their rushing attack, which appeals to Benjamin.
It remains to be seen to what extreme Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh will go to in order to sign Benjamin, who attends East High School in Wylie, Texas. Harbaugh has taken recruiting to a new level at his alma mater, where he was hired before the start of last season. His tactics include having sleepovers and watching movies with recruits.
