AH podcast: The latest on Kenny Arnold attending Fry Fest
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The mission to make life better for Kenny Arnold is producing positive results.
One of the most significant developments will occur on Friday with Arnold expected to attend Fry Fest, along with most of his teammates from Iowa's 1980 Final Four squad, including star point guard Ronnie Lester.
The fact that Arnold can even travel from his home in a care facility in Chicago to Iowa City is remarkable in itself, considering where he was just a year ago from a physical standpoint, bedridden, depressed and filled with pain.
Arnold's heath has improved to where his body now can withstand the rigors of being on the road for a weekend. In addition to Fry Fest, Arnold will attend a meet-and-greet that is scheduled for later on Friday at the Marriott Hotel in Coralville.
Arnold also plans to attend the Iowa football team's season opener against Wyoming on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium.
He couldn't havd done any of this a year ago.
Arnold has been battling health issues, along with the odds, since having brain surgery in 1985. His diagnosis was bleak after his first surgery more than 30 years ago, but Arnold has persevered thanks to his courage and strength, and thanks to the strength and support from others, namely his best friend and former college teammate, Mike "Tree" Henry.
Henry has sort of been like Arnold's guardian angel, always by his side providing love and support.
The two friends will travel together from Chicago to Iowa City on Thursday.
Henry is our guest for this podcast, along with Marty Gallagher, who also has played a key role in Arnold's resurgence.
Gallagher owns Talk To Me Technologies and his company gave Arnold a device that helps him communicate. Arnold now communicates with Iowa fans on a regular basis through social media.
The interaction with Hawkeye fans on Facebook is being credited with helping to improve Arnold's health.
Henry and Gallagher join us for the first part of the 75-minute podcast and speak for about 30 minutes about this coming weekend's events.
