Josh Ogundele withdraws from transfer portal and will return to Iowa
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Upon second thought, Josh Ogundele has decided to stay put.
The sophomore center from London, England has changed his mind about transferring from Iowa where he has played the last two seasons.
Ogundele announced Thursday on Twitter that he has withdrawn his name from the transfer portal and will return to Iowa next season.
Ogundele appeared in 19 games this past season and averaged 1.5 points and 1.3 rebounds per game. He scored a career-high seven points in a loss at Purdue this past December.
Ogundele appeared in eight games as a true freshman in 2020-21, but was slowed by health issues and by a lack of conditioning after joining the team late in the summer and during the global pandemic.
His return means that Ogundele and 6-foot-11 freshman Riley Mulvey will give Iowa two true post players next season.
Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said on a recent episode of the Hawk Fanatic radio show and podcast that he was looking to add a frontline player from the transfer portal.
It’s uncertain if the 6-10 Ogundele’s decision to return to Iowa will change Fran McCaffery’s mind about adding another frontline player.
