Maryland to hire Brian Ferentz as Senior Offensive Assistant

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Former Iowa offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz has landed a new job that will keep him in the Big Ten Conference.
The son of Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz will be hired hired as a Senior Offensive Assistant for the Maryland football program, according to multiple sources.
Brian Ferentz was fired as the Iowa offensive coordinator with four games left in the 2023 regular season. He was allowed to coach until the end of the season.
Brian Ferentz, a former Iowa offensive lineman, was promoted by his father to offensive coordinator shortly after the end of the 2016 season.
It was assumed that Brian Ferentz was being groomed to be his father’s successor as head coach.
However, that plan, assuming it was true, hit a road block when the Iowa offense performed horribly in each of the past two seasons.
Some fans were clamoring for the 41-year old Brian Ferentz to be fired, and UI Athletic Director Beth Goetz took that step in October.
Iowa will play at Maryland on Nov. 23 in the second to last game of the 2024 regular season.
Brian Ferentz joined the Iowa coaching staff in 2012 after having coached with New England Patriots from 2008 to 2011.
He coached the offensive line, running backs, tight ends and quarterbacks while working under his father.
Mike Locksley has been the Maryland head coach since 2019.
He led the Terrapins to an 8-5 record this past season, capped by a 31-13 victory over Auburn in the Music City Bowl.
