Prime Time League starts late, but opens strong
NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa – It took longer than usual for the Prime Time League to get started this summer, but it seems to have been worth the wait judging from the action on opening night.
The 30th season of the PTL got off to a rousing start on Thursday at the North Liberty Community as four of the five incoming freshmen for the Iowa men’s basketball team made their debuts.
Forwards Tyler Cook and Cordell Pemsl and guards Jordan Bohannon and Maishe Dailey all showed why Iowa coach Fran McCaffery is so excited about his incoming freshmen class. Pemsl’s PTL debut didn’t last long, though, as he was removed from his game early in the fist half after injuring his eye.
Former Iowa all-Big Ten guard Matt Gatens also made his debut as a player/coach in the PTL.
Incoming freshman forward Ryan Kriener did not play on Thursday, but he met with reporters to update his situation.
The PTL started two weeks later than usual because there was a delay in the application process with the NCAA. But that had no effect on Thursday’s crowd as fans packed the seats in both gymnasiums.
