Tyler Cook shines in Prime Time League debut
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Based on his performance Thursday night in the Prime Time League, incoming freshman forward Tyler Cook might be as good as advertised.
Cook finished his PTL debut with 27 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field. The former four-star recruit from St. Louis also treated the fans to several highlight-reel dunks. His most impressive dunk might have been the alley-oop in the first half that riled up the crowd that had gathered at the North Liberty Community Center.
“I just wanted to come out and play hard,” said Cook, one of five incoming freshmen for the Hawkeyes. “I didn’t want to be the guy taking all the shots but it kind of worked out that way towards the end of the game.”
The 6-foot-9 Cook comes to Iowa with a reputation for being an above-the-rim player. He now wants to expand his game at the collegiate level.
“My role has kind of changed since I got to Iowa,” Cook said. “Playing above the rim is what everybody knows me for so I definitely don’t want to get away from that. But just rounding out my game is what I’m trying to work on.
“I don’t want to be one-dimensional. I want to make it as hard as possible for people to guard me.”
In addition to scoring 27 points, Cook also pulled down eight rebounds and dished out two assists.

Medical updates: Returning senior guard Peter Jok did not play Thursday night due a foot injury that appears to be turf toe. No timetable has been set for his return to Prime Time League play.
Incoming freshman forward Cordell Pemsl made an early exit from his game. The 6-8 Pemsl was poked in the eye in the first few minutes of action and did not return.
Kriener addresses illness rumors: Freshman forward Ryan Kriener is not participating in the Prime Time League due to an unknown illness. Kriener denied a rumor that he was suffering from mononucleosis.
“No, I don’t have mono,” Kriener said. “It’s just an unknown illness and I’m going to the doctor on Friday to see if I can get back to work and from what it sounds like I’m good to go.”
Bohannon shines: Not to be outdone by his fellow freshmen, point guard Jordan Bohannon also played well on Thursday.
The former Linn-Mar star scored 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field, including 7-of-11 from beyond the arc.
