AH TV: Iowa basketball players excited for season opener
IOWA CITY, IOWA – Fans will get their first official look at the Iowa men's basketball team when it faces Kennesaw State in the season opener on Friday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Iowa coach Fran McCaffery and several of his players met with the media on Wednesday to discuss the season opener.
McCaffery is entering his seventh season as head coach and has led Iowa to the NCAA Tournament in each of the past three seasons. A fourth consecutive appearance will be a challenge, considering McCaffery has to replace four senior starters from last season.
All-Big Ten senior guard Peter Jok is Iowa's only returning starter. He is expected to be joined in the starting lineup on Friday by sophomore point guard Christian Williams, sophomore forward Nicholas Baer, junior forward Dom Uhl and freshman forward Tyler Cook.
McCaffery told reporters on Wednesday that he could use as many as 11 players in a rotation.
Kennesaw State posted an 11-20 overall record last season, finishing fifth in the Atlantic Sun Conference with a 7-7 record. The Owls return eight letterwinners, including three starters from last season.
Iowa defeated Regis University 95-73 in an exhibition game last Friday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Friday's game will start at approximately 8:35 and is the second game a of a doubleheader, which also has the Iowa women's basketball playing Oral Roberts in the first game.
