Nation’s top 195 pounder commits to Iowa wrestling team
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The nation’s top-ranked high school wrestler at 195 pounds has committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Washington, Ill., native Jacob Warner announced his decision on Wednesday, according to Flo Wrestling. He picked the Hawkeyes over Minnesota, Ohio State, Purdue and Arizona State.
Warner won a bronze medal at the Cadet World Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia this past summer and is a two-time Illinois state champion with a career record of 137-10. Warner projects as a 197-pounder in college, which is crucial for the Hawkeyes in the wake of two-time All-American Nathan Burak's graduation.
Warner is the latest piece to Iowa’s heralded 2017 recruiting class. He joins pound-for-pound No. 1 Spencer Lee, No. 7 Max Murin, No. 12 Aaron Costello, No. 17 Myles Wilson, No. 14 Luke Troy, and Justin Stickley.
Warner is the highest ranked wrestler in the 2017 senior class at 195 pounds by ASICS High School Rankings and is ranked 10th overall in the class.
