Beau Corrales de-commits from Iowa
By Pat Harty
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Beau Corrales wasn't doing interviews on Friday, but he still had something important to say about his future as a college football player.
The 2017 receiver from Georgetown, Texas announced on Twitter that he was de-committing from Iowa in order to explore other options.
Corrales posted a statement on Twitter explaining his feelings, but said he would answer no questions.
"Unfortunately I have been having second thoughts about my future being a Hawk," Corrales said on Twitter. "Iowa was my first Power Five offer and I feel as if I chose them too quickly out of excitement without giving myself time to think through such a big decision as this."
His father, Greg Corrales told Allhawkeyes.com on Friday that his son wants to look at other schools before making a final decision, but that Iowa still is his top choice at this time.
"He just wants to make other visits," Greg Corrales said. "He still has Iowa as his number one choice. He wants to make a decision based on what is best for him in the long run versus making a decision based on emotion."
Iowa previously had six players from Texas committed to its 2017 recruiting class, but that number has since been cut in half with Corrales' de-commitment.
Four-star running back Eno Benjamin, who is from Wylie, Texas, de-committed from Iowa on Oct. 23, while Dallas 4-star cornerback Chevin Calloway de-committed at some point this fall. Benjamin and Iowa parted ways after Benjamin took visits to Missouri and Arizona State, which violates Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz's no-visit policy for committed players. Calloway also has visited Arkansas and is considering at least four other schools.
Iowa still has three Texas natives committed to its 2017 class, including quarterback Peyton Mansell, who is a close friend of Beau Corrales.
"He told me at lunchtime," Mansell said of when heard about Corrales' decision. "It was a big surprise. I'm sad that we won't have the opportunity to play together in college."
