Ohio four-star recruit Aeneas Hawkins intrigued by Iowa offer

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team has certainly made a strong impression on a highly-touted 2018 defensive lineman from Ohio.
Cincinnati native Aeneas Hawkins recently received a scholarship offer from Iowa shortly after meeting with Iowa recruiting coordinator and assistant defensive line coach Kelvin Bell.
The 6-foot-3, 260-pound Hawkins has been on Iowa's radar for quite some time, but his junior season highlight tape showed Iowa his versatility, which led to a scholarship offer.
Hawkins now Iowa has ranked among his top seven schools.
"It's very exciting," Hawkins said Wednesday. "Iowa is obviously a great school with great football. They're in my top seven right now without a visit, and I'm sure the visit would help them out even more.
"They told me they think I can play any position on their defensive line. They've been recruiting me for a long time. They said the film from this year is what put them over the top to offer."
A quality defensive line coach and a family atmosphere is important to Hawkins, who came away impressed after visiting with Bell, who played defensive line under Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz.
Reese Morgan currently serves as the Iowa defensive line coach and has been a member of the staff since 2000.
"I haven't been out to visit yet, but I can tell you one of the most important things I look for is a good defensive line coach," said Hawkins, who is ranked as four-star recruit by Rivals. "I can tell you that coach Bell is one of my favorites yet."
Hawkins said he plans to attend Iowa's Junior Day in March, wouldn't release the rest of his top seven. He also has offers from Clemson, Cincinnati, Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, Louisville, Iowa State, Penn State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Toledo and Marshall.
Hawkins also said plans to announce his commitment on May 10, which also happens to be his birthday.
Iowa adds preferred walk-on: Bettendorf outside linebacker Keegan Glaus announced Wednesday via Twitter that has accepted a preferred walk-on opportunity at Iowa.
The 6-foot, 215-pound Glaus could play linebacker or fullback at Iowa, but he isn't sure at this stage.
