Will Putnam still feeling out the process
By Tyler Devine
IOWA CITY, Iowa – So far, the month of January has been kind to 2019 offensive lineman Will Putnam.
Putnam, a native of Chatham, Ill., has added multiple power five offers in a two-week span, including one from Iowa where Putnam has attended camp and begun to develop a relationship with Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz and his staff.
"It felt really good getting that offer," Putnam said. "I’ve been up there a couple times and I really liked it when I went up there and getting the offer felt really good."
The 6-foot-4, 250-pound Putnam came away from his visits impressed by the way Ferentz carries himself on and off the field.
"One thing about Iowa that I like that stands out compared to other schools is the coaches," Putnam said. "Coach Ferentz and coach Brian Ferentz, I really liked him when I was at camp. I really liked his personality and I like how he coaches. I mean, the facilities are phenomenal.
"It’s the people that make the program and the people at Iowa I really like and feel like I could build a good relationship with.”
Iowa's penchant for sending offensive lineman to the National Football League also stands out to Putnam.
“That’s another thing about Iowa. With Coach Ferentz coaching the offensive line and between him and their strength staff they have something really good going on when they send a lot of offensive lineman to the next level.”
Because he's still early in the process Putnam wants to take his time and make as many visits as he can before he starts to narrow down a list of favorites.
“Right now I’m in the decision process and some of the schools that have offered me I haven’t even visited yet," Putnam said. "And then right now I’m just trying to get out to the schools I can and build better relationships with most of the coaching staffs that have currently offered me. Then once I’ve done that then I’ll kind of start deciding between those schools.”
Putnam also has offers from Illinois, Georgia, Ohio State, Northwestern, Michigan State, Penn State and Pittsburgh.
