AH podcast: Don Patterson breaks down the prime time matchup against Penn State
IOWA CITY, Iowa – It's Monday, which means another insightful interview with former Iowa offensive coordinator Don Patterson.
And there was plenty to discuss with Iowa preparing to face fourth-ranked Penn State on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium. The Hawkeyes are 3-0 for just the seventh time in 19 seasons under Kirk Ferentz, but Penn State still is favored by as many as 12 points.
The game starts at 6:30 p.m. and will be televised on ABC.
The Nittany Lions embarrassed Iowa last season, winning 41-14 in State College, Pa. Making matters worse is that Penn State star running back Saquon Barkley basically accused the Iowa players of quitting after the game.
Iowa then shocked the college football world a week later by upsetting previously undefeated Michigan 14-13 at Kinnick Stadium.
Patterson, who also was the head coach at Western Illinois and an assistant coach at Buffalo and Connecticut before retiring in 2015, thinks the Hawkeyes can pull off another upset this Saturday, but certain things will have to happen as he points out during the 30-minute interview.
We appreciate Don Patterson's insight and think you will, too.
So give it a listen.
