IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team graduates all three of its starting linebackers after this season, including consensus All-American Josey Jewell.
One player Iowa is looking to to help replace the three seniors is three-star junior college linebacker Will Honas.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Honas took an official visit to Iowa over the weekend and now has Iowa in his top three along with Kansas State and Nebraska.
“The coaches did a really good job of showing and explaining the team and school,” Honas said. “I’m very interested in Iowa.”
Honas, who attends Butler County Community College in El Dorado, Kan., previously told Allhawkeyes in November that the opportunity to play right away was a big factor in his decision.
“That’s really big for me because (I can come in and compete for a starting position right away),” Honas said.
Iowa currently has one linebacker signed to its 2018 recruiting class in Iowa City native Dillon Doyle and another athlete in Essexville, Mich. native Ben VanSumeren who is projected to play linebacker at Iowa.
Honas said that he plans on signing his letter of intent during the early signing period that starts Dec. 20.
Honas also said he plans on taking an official visit to Nebraska this coming weekend.
He also has offers from Arkansas, Bowling Green, California, Eastern Michigan, Houston, Kansas, Louisville, Mississippi, Pittsburgh and Toledo.
Iowa currently has 14 players committed to its 2018 recruiting class.
