2023 Ankeny quarterback J.J. Kohl discusses Iowa offer

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Ankeny quarterback J.J. Kohl now has scholarship offers from both Power Five schools in Iowa.
The 2023 prospect received an offer from Iowa during a visit to campus this week and Iowa State offered June 1.
“It always means more being offered by schools I grew up watching,” Kohl said. “(Head) coach (Kirk) Ferentz is leading a great program that is traditionally in the top 20.”
Though he grew up watching both Iowa and Iowa State, the 6-foot-6, 225-pound Kohl considered himself more of an Iowa State fan.
Both of his parents went to Iowa State and his father, Jamie Kohl, played football there from 1995-98.
Regardless, Kohl said that Iowa being among the first to offer will always mean a lot to him.
“It shows that they have a lot of confidence in my abilities,” Kohl said. “I want to play for coaches who believe in me.”
During his visit, Kohl said he enjoyed the opportunity to get to learn about quarterbacks coach Ken O’Keefe’s coaching style and have a talk with Ferentz.
Kohl is believed to be the third quarterback in the 2023 class to have received a scholarship offer from Iowa, according to Rivals.com.
