Two Iowa football letterman from teams in 1950s die

Don Bowen and Don Dobrino, University of Iowa football teammates in the 1950’s, have passed. Bowen, passed on June 25 at the age of 84, while Dobrino passed July 4 at the age of 86.
Bowen and Dobrino were members of the 1956 Iowa squad that posted a 9-1 overall record, winning the Big Ten and completing the season with a 35-19 win over Oregon State in the Rose Bowl.
Dobrino lettered from 1954-56 as a Hawkeye running back while also competing for the Iowa baseball team. Dobrino was drafted by Washington in the 10th round of the 1957 NFL Draft, before selecting to pursue a career in baseball. After spending five seasons in the minor leagues, Dobrino began his long and successful career as a high school coach and educator.
Bowen was an offensive lineman and letterman from 1955-57. Following the championship season in 1956, Bowen helped the Hawkeyes post a 7-1-1 mark the following season.
