Hawk Fanatic week 1 game predictions
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Welcome to the 2021 edition of the Hawk Fanatic weekly game predictions.
Each week throughout the season, Pat Harty and Tyler Devine will predict the outcome of the Iowa game, along with four other key matchups. Most of the picks will involve Big Ten teams, but there will be some exceptions, including this week’s matchup between national powers Clemson and Georgia.
Harty and Devine are both serious with their predictions, but they also like to have some fun with their comments because college football is meant to be fun.
So let the fun begin:
Iowa 28, Indiana 27: Iowa 23-year old kicker and sixth-year senior Caleb Shudak makes a 54-yard game-winning field goal as time expires, and then shortly thereafter signs an endorsement deal with AARP.
Ohio State 34, Minnesota 20: Gopher head coach P.J. Fleck said his team’s struggles with Covid last season will make his 2021 squad a dangerous team. However, his team’s struggles with Ohio State will soon make it 0-1.
Wisconsin 28, Penn State 21: Trailing by 10 points at halftime, Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst warns his players that Barry Alvarez isn’t coming through that door anytime soon, and then encourages them to rally behind the Wisconsin students when they finally start to arrive at Camp Randall Stadium midway through the third quarter. And it works.
Michigan State 20, Northwestern 17:Â Pat Fitzgerald tries to cheer up his players after the game by reminding them that they were all accomplished enough in the classroom to have been accepted at Northwestern.
Clemson 25, Georgia 23: Clemson agrees to join the SEC at halftime and then picks up a key conference win.
Tyler Devine
Iowa 34, Indiana 31: Indiana wins on paper, but football isn’t played on paper, you nerds.
Ohio State 55, Minnesota 24: Ryan Day? More like Ryan Night…game, right?
Wisconsin 13, Penn State 10: Paul Chryst would totally take James Franklin in a fight.
Northwestern 17, Michigan State 6: The only Big Ten team Michigan State will beat this year is Michigan.
Georgia 62, Clemson 57: Maybe it’s the fact that I’m a Falcons fan, but I’ve always had a soft spot for Georgia football. It’s either that or the fact that I find Dabo Swinney to be insufferable.
