Iowa sophomore receiver Desmond Hutson enters transfer portal
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa sophomore receiver Desmond Hutson announced Friday that he has entered the transfer portal.
He is the third Hawkeye to enter the transfer portal since the 2021 season started, joining redshirt freshman receiver and Florida native Quavon Matthews and sophomore tight end Josiah Miamen, who is from Peoria, Illinois.
A native of Raytown, Missouri, the 6-foot-3, 208-pound Hutson had no statistics from this season and he didn’t see any game action during the 2020 season after suffering a preseason injury.
Hutson appeared briefly in two games in 2019 as a true freshman, but he ultimately took a redshirt season.
Hutson was among 21 players that signed with Iowa’s 2019 recruiting class. Nine of those players have since left the program, or plan to leave the program in the case of Hutson and Miamen.
The other seven players from the 2019 class that have either left the Iowa program, or no longer are listed on the roster are defensive lineman Taajir McCall, running back Shadrick Byrd, defensive back Darius McKinney, linebacker Yahweh Jeudy, defensive lineman Jack Karchinski and offensive linemen Ezra Miller and Noah Fenske.
Hutson was one of four redshirt freshmen named to Iowa’s 2020 Leadership Group. He was also among eight true freshmen who saw action in 2019.
