Luke Williams Reflects on Iowa Visit, Offer
'24 IL WR Hooks Hawkeye Opportunity
If you’ve been watching Iowa football this season, you know the program could use some help in the receiver room. The Hawkeyes are prioritizing the position on the recruiting trail.
One of the top pass-catching juniors in the region visited them last weekend. Naperville (IL) North’s Luke Williams picked up a scholarship offer during the stop.
“Iowa has a great football tradition. For them to see me in that tradition is for sure a blessing,” Williams told HF.
Williams (6-1, 175) reports 13 offers in all. They include Boston College, Duke, Iowa State, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and Wisconsin.
“I have definite plans to visit Duke, Kansas, Syracuse, Michigan, and Mizzou. And I will be going back to some schools for the second or third time, like Cincy, Iowa State, Illinois and Northwestern,” he said.
The Hawkeyes impressed Williams during his first visit to Iowa City.
“I loved the atmosphere on game day. During pregame, it was good to see the wide receivers working and getting ready for the game,” he said.
Williams connected with Iowa receiver coach Kelton Copeland during the visit.
“He talked about my athleticism, ball skills and how he could see me working well in the offense. He also talked about how the Hawkeyes work on continuous development to get me stronger and better on and off the ball. I like that he said they don’t just throw out offers, and they liked me enough to see me growing and helping the program,” Williams said.
According to Max Preps, Williams has 29 catches for 346 yards with three touchdowns through six games this season. He also has an interception and pass breakup on defense.
“I think I can add to the wide receiver pool with my athletic abilities and ball skills. I’m working on my physicality after the catch. I think having me as a target would give (the Hawkeyes) even more depth and offensive weapons,” he said.
Among the programs that have yet to offer a scholarships, Williams said he’s receiving serious interest from Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Cincinnati, Michigan, Kentucky, Syracuse, and Illinois. He looks forward to learning more about all the schools recruiting him.
“I want to see players and coaches game-day feelings and see what the school environment is like on game day. Plus, I want to be a vet, so I look at those programs at each school,” he said.
