Iowa men’s basketball expects to sign at least three high school seniors on early signing day
IOWA CITY, Iowa – At least three high school seniors are expected to sign national letters of intent with the Iowa men’s basketball team on Wednesday, which marks the start of the early signing period.
Illinois high school teammates Owen Freeman and Brock Harding, along with Waukee native Pryce Sandfort are expected to sign on Wednesday after having made verbal commitments.
Freeman is a 6-foot-10 forward/center, while Harding is a 6-0 point guard.
Sandfort is a 6-7 guard/forward and the younger brother of currrent Iowa sophomore Payton Sandfort.
Pryce Sandfort is ranked as a four-star recruit by Rivals, while Freeman and Harding are ranked as three-star prospects.
Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery said recently that another player could be added to the 2023 class.
Ladji Dembele, a 6-8 forward from St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, New Jersey is reportedly down down to three schools: Rutgers, Iowa and Wake Forest.
He has visited Iowa and Wake Forest officially, and Rutgers unofficially.
“We’re looking to add some guys, or in particular probably not more than one,” Fran McCaffery said. “We’ve got three. I can’t mention their names, but probably at least one more and we’ll see where we are in the spring.”
NCAA rules prohibit college coaches from talking publicly about a recruit until the recruit has signed a letter of intent.
