J.D. Crisp Talks Recent Iowa Visit, Offer
TX Prospect Aiming to Play College Football, Baseball
J.D. Crisp shows the skills and versatility to project at multiple positions in college. The Texas prep junior lists free safety and receiver as his spots on Hudl, where his production at running back jumps off the highlights.
Iowa Football likes him at receiver right now. So much so that the Hawkeyes remain his lone scholarship offer after they extended the opportunity late last month during a campus visit.
“What stood out to me most was the great environment,” Crisp told HF. “Iowa, it’s like one big family, and they all just want the best for you.”
Crisp is an interesting prospect. He hopes to play football and baseball in college. He’s a high-level performer in the latter, too.
According to MaxPreps.com, Crisp (6-0, 190) played in five football games as a junior at Cypress (TX) Second Baptist. He caught nine passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns. He rushed 25 times for 446 yards and six scores, returned four kickoffs for 94 yards and eight punts for 124.
The performance impressed the Hawkeyes.
“The say they like my ability to high point the ball and make plays,” Crisp said.
He enjoyed seeing the facilities, checking out the campus and town, and meeting with coaches from football and baseball.
“I’m still going to weigh my options, but I’m definitely excited and considering Iowa. I would say the reason why I could be a good fit is because I have the speed and ability to go make plays when needed,” Crisp said.
He visited Minnesota following his stop at Iowa and stopped at Houston in January. Maryland, Texas Teach and others have reportedly shown interest in him.
Rivals, On3 and 247Sports have not yet ranked Crisp.
