PEORIA, Illinois – The University of Iowa baseball team defeated Bradley University, 9-6, on Wednesday evening at Dozer Park.

“A lot of positives,” said head coach Rick Heller. “But also a little bit sloppy, just happy to come out with a win.”

Keaton Anthony got the start for the Hawkeyes, throwing two innings and allowing two runs – one unearned – on two hits. Eight other pitchers saw action following Anthony allowing four runs and striking out nine. Jacob Henderson was credited with the win.

“I thought that Jack Whitlock threw well,” said Heller. “Jacob Henderson, Aaron Savary, Luke Llewellyn and Jack Young. I thought all those guys threw well.”

Sam Hojnar was the only Hawkeye to tally a multi-hit game as he went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and a three-run home run. 5 players each tallied one hit. Raider Tello drew three walks and brought home two RBIs with the bases loaded.

“Offensively, we had a lot of traffic via the free base,” said Heller. “We didn’t really come out with a lot of hits; we stranded a lot of runners. Got two in the first would have liked it to be four or five given the situation we were in. Gave them a couple back in the first and the second, and then it was a tight game for a while, but we kept pressuring them and Sam Hojnar had a big three run homer. Sam had a really good game offensively for us.”

Iowa scored two runs in the first, three in the fifth, two in the sixth, one in the seventh and one in the ninth en route to victory.

Of Note

  • The Hawkeyes recorded their 21st victory of the season.
  • Iowa is 21-6 on the year, and 3-3 in true road contests.
  • Sam Hojnar’s home run was the fifth of his season.
  • Iowa now leads the all-time series with Bradley, 48-42-2.
