2024 Wisconsin small forward Teagan Mallegni commits to Iowa
Mallegni led her high school team to state tournament for first time since 1999
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa women’s basketball team finished the greatest season in program history less than a week ago, so now the focus has shifted to recruiting, and that’s also bringing success.
Iowa has received a verbal commitment from 2024 Wisconsin native Teagan Mallegni, a 6-foot small forward, who averaged 24.5 points, 11.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 3.9 steals per game this past season for McFarland High School.
She also made first-team all-state this past season and led her high school team to the state tournament for the first time since 1999.
Mallegni announced her commitment to Iowa via Twitter Saturday afternoon.
Mallegni’s mother, Sara Mallegni, is the head coach for her high school team.
“She has always been able to score, but she has worked hard on playing defense, passing and decision-making, which makes her invaluable,” Sara Mallegni said to the Wisconsin State-Journal.
Teagan Mallegni’s announcement came six days after Iowa lost to LSU, 102-85, in the NCAA national championship game last Sunday in Dallas.
It marked the first time that the Iowa women’s basketball team has advanced to the NCAA title game.
The Hawkeyes also finished 31-7 overall and were led by junior guard Caitlin Clark, who was voted the consensus National Player of the Year this season.
The state of Wisconsin has been good to Iowa from a recruiting standpoint with departing senior McKenna Warnock the latest Wisconsin native to excell at Iowa as a three-year starter at small forward.
Former Iowa All-America center Megan Gustafson, and former Iowa All-America point Sam Logic were also both from Wisconsin, Port Wing and Racine, respectively.
Gustafson was named the 2019 National Player of the Year, while Logic was a four-year starter.
Mallegni is ranked by ESPN as the 59th best prospect overall in the 2024 class.
