Three-time California state champion Miguel Estrada commits to Iowa wrestling
Estrada flips from Wisconsin to Hawkeyes
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa wrestling team received a huge commitment on Wednesday, and it came at the expense of Big Ten rival Wisconsin.
Miguel Estrada, a three-time state California state champion from Frontier High School in Bakersfield, switched his commitment from Wisconsin to Iowa after having previously commited to Wisconsin in December.
He announced his decision on Instagram.
“Thank you Wisconsin for everything they have done,” Estrada said. “It was an honor, but ultimately, Iowa is what is best for me.
“It’s been my dream school since I was a kid. GOHAWK! See you Carver. All glory God!”
Estrada is currently ranked No. 2 nationally at 145 pounds in MatScouts’ latest rankings, and is ranked 28th overall in the 2024 class.
He projects at either 149 or 157 pounds in college.
Estrada won a state title at 141 pounds in 2021 and then back-to-back state titles at 145 pounds in 2022 and 2023.
He also won a the 16U folkstyle national title at 138 pounds in 2021.
Estrada is the second wrestler to commit to Iowa’s 2024 class, joining Keayn Hernandez, who is a three-time state champion from Montana. Hernandez committed to Iowa in October.
