Iowa men will face Kansas State in NIT first-round game at Carver-Hawkeye Arena
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa men’s basketball team will face Kansas State in the first-round of the National Invitation Tournament on Tuesday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Iowa lost to Ohio State 90-78 in the second-round of the Big Ten Tournament this past Thursday in Minneapolis and is 18-14 overall, while Kansas State is 19-14 overall.
Iowa is seeded third in its eight-team region.
The winner between Iowa and Kansas State will play the winner of Cal-Irvine-Utah.
Iowa finished 10-10 in Big Ten conference play this season, and probably would’ve had to win at least two games in the Big Ten Tournament to have a chance of making the NCAA Tournament for a fifth straight season.
The NIT is sort of a consolation prize, and a chance for Iowa to play at least one more game in front of the home fans.
Kansas State finished 8-10 in conference play before going 1-1 in the Big 12 tournament under second-year head coach Jerome Tang. K-State made an Elite 8 run under Tang in 2023.
Tickets for Tuesday’s game will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Monday at I-800-IA-HAWKS or online at hawkeyesports.com/tickets. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. and the game will be televised by ESPN.
Because of the short turnaround time from the announcement to hosting Tuesday’s game, season ticket holders are not guaranteed to receive their season ticket location. All purchasers will have the ability to select seats in the purchase process.
The NIT appearance will be the ninth in program history and the first since the 2016-17 season. Iowa is 10-8 all-time in the NIT, including finishing runner-up in 2013.
